Travertine

Largest Collection of Imported Travertine

“Travertine” is derived from the Italian word “travertino,” which comes from the Latin version “tiburtinus.” It means “of Tibur.” Tibur was the present-day Tivoli in Italy, a town known for its quarries of the travertine stone.

Travertine is a form of limestone created from mineral deposits typically found in natural springs, especially hot springs. Travertine has been used for centuries in building and sculpting, priced for its natural beauty and strength. In the ancient world, travertine was highly valued for its durability and its use in architecture, most famously in the construction of the Colosseum in Rome.

The warm, earthy colours of the stone range from white to cream, gold, and even reddish hues. The natural pits and grooves in travertine contribute to its unique and rustic texture. Travertine’s low porosity makes it suitable for both interior as well as exterior applications, including walls, flooring, and countertops.
